Keeping an eye on the competition

I'm a diehard Romney supporter but make it a habit of hearing other candidates (schedule permitting) when they are in eastern Iowa. As the old saying goes, "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer." Seriously though, its important to get a gauge on the support and enthusiasm for the opposition. Always be polite and respectful at other candidates events, applaud sporadicly, and do not wear any Romney buttons or stickers, etc. You don't win too many converts by being rude or obnoxious. As a veteran of the 1999 "Iowa Straw Poll" I saw candidates who didn't fare well dropping like flies and their supporters looking for a new horse in the race. I'm sure that this will occur again after the August 2007 Iowa Straw Poll. I want those converts to flock to Romney. Get involved in your county's organization by attending central committee meetings and be part of the election process. We're only five months from the Iowa Straw Poll and ten months from the Iowa caucus. I'll go out on a limb and predict that on the night of Feb. 5th, 2008 we will know who the nominees are for both parties. The time to get involved is now!

God Bless,
Jim Kirkpatrick

Great advice Jim!

Romney's done a great job of assembling a team of dedicated and hard-working, but not viciously nasty, campaign staff here in Iowa and abroad. Some other candidates can't claim that as strongly. I think these good people working for Romney will help him pick up the others whose horses drop out.

I agree that we definitely need to do our part as well.

Keep up the good work Jim and we look forward to hearing more from you!

Great to have you on board blogging here!
