More on Annoying Activists at the Straw Poll

Here is a little post over on RedState about Paul's activists:

I've been chatting with a lot of people today. One overwhelming theme in their memories of the straw poll : The Ron Paul activists were very annoying, and if anyone else experienced what Iowans just experienced, they would never vote for Paul. I would have to agree. We had a Paul activist park his bicycle right in front of the door to our bus and effectively block us from getting off the bus. Once we got him to back off, he started trying to give fake directions to lead people in our group away from the Romney staff who were trying to lead us to the correct polling location. Seriously?? That's pretty lame, and Ron Paul needs to get his activists in check, or they will ruin it for him. Did anyone else experience this? I'd love to hear about, and America needs to hear about it.

I think it's amazing that you are complaining about Ron Paul's support which is real---while you were busing people in from every county and had countless paid "staff"---and you still only pulled 31% or so despite trying to buy the votes. How much money did Mitt pay per vote? I wonder? I was there and I experienced Mitt Romney supporters bullying Huckabee's folks and others. At one point, they blocked the side walk because they didn't want to destroy a picture perfect photo-op---and this was not inside their designated tent area. Hmmmm---sounds like sombody is a bit defensive when they should be thankful that they got the votes they did---despite being the creepiest element at the straw poll (paid staffers) unlike good Americans who are volunteering to support Ron Paul. *** This is Aaron from http://myspace.com/christiansforronpaul

aaron - maybe you missed the point of the straw poll. it is a measure of local support organizational strength and financial support. the results speak for themselves.

You HAVE TO PAY TO VOTE!!!! What kind of POLL is that? Perhaps if Ron Paul had bussed in people from all over the state he would have come in better than fifth. But I'll take a candidate with 9% percent honest votes over a candidate with 31% bought votes anyday. I was there, I was marching, I was supporting, and there were as many ignorant Romney supportes as the claims of ignorant Paul supporters. They rode around on thier little golf carts and nearly ran down me and my children twice. Perhaps Romney should get his supports in line, or pay them more money to take driving lessons!

Angela-
I never claimed the Paul supporters were "ignorant". You said that yourself. I said that there were Paul activists intentionally trying to confuse individuals on where to vote. I have not heard of any claims of other campaigns doing this. I am just glad the straw poll ended up happening despite the media trying to downplay it. It's great to see all the candidates in one place.

Ron Paul is not viable. Get used to the idea. And get ready to vote for Hillary.

One of my good friends (a flaming liberal) loves Ron Paul. You guys are likely in the same boat. We don't expect you to get excited about Mitt. We just would hope you wouldn't obstruct and annoy so much.

Aaron from the first comment-
speaking of volunteers vs. paid staff. .... . Mitt Romney volunteered as Governor in Mass...... He never accepted a salary to be the Gov. He will likely do the same thing as President, too..... Just an FYI.

I have to agree with you on the "off the wall" antic of the Paul supporters. We got to the straw poll very late and were immediately bombarded by them, some tried to force us to take some Paul literature and some even tried to redirect us to Paul's area after I asked if they knew where the Romney area was. I was amazed that when I stepped off the shuttle bus, that they actually walked in front of the Romney staffers that were waiting for us. Though all of that is nothing compared to the damage (?) they caused in Ames. I live in Ames and saw more then 10 city road signs that had Paul stickers stuck to them. As a matter of fact, there was a stop sign that was very near to the ISU campus that had a sticker stuck on the front of it Not good.

Suggesting Mitt's votes are "bought" votes because he provided transportation and paid for their tickets to vote is ridiculous. The reason the tickets cost money is its a fundraiser. I'm sure if Ron Paul made them the same offer they'd have declined. Who'd go stand in the sweltering heat for hours when they could be doing the same thing at the Iowa State Fair, all for a candidate they don't actually support? It's not like he paid them cash.
